Track & Field Competes At Iowa Invitational
April 19, 2008 Iowa City, Iowa - The UIC men's and women's track and field teams continued their outdoor season at the Iowa Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Joseph Mbari picked up the lone title for UIC, winning the 3,000-meter run. Mbari crossed the finish line in 8:41.57. Ezekiel Sayon shined in the 100 and 200-meter dash. The freshman finished first in the 100-meter preliminaries with a season-best time of 10.88 seconds. He placed third overall in the 100-meter finals in 11.12 seconds. Sayon also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.55 seconds. In the long jump, Terell Williams turned in a 10th place finish with a leap of 6.20 meters. The men's 4x400-meter relay team recorded a season-best time of 3:25.91. Other notable performances for the men included an eighth place finish for Roger Pinon in the 3,000-meter run (8:57.19) and a 10th place finish for Cory Renner in the 200-meter dash (:23.41). On the women's side, Idara Essien marked the Flames best finish. Essien placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.35 meters. Jennifer Savickas and Kristen McMurray showed well in the throwing events. Savickas tossed a distance of 36.81 meters in the discus and McMurray threw for 43.72 meters in the hammer throw. In the track events, Danyelle Somerfield finished runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 12:35.94.
Olivia Myers also highlighted the women's squad with a ninth place finish in the 3,000-meter run with a season-best 10:50.07. UIC's next meet will take place on Saturday, April 26 at the Marquette Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis. |
