Chicago, Ill. - The Chicagoland area will serve as the host to the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the first time this spring.

UIC and Loyola will co-host the event at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill. on May 1-3, 2009.

"I'm very excited to co-host the event with the UIC coaching staff and administration," said head track and field coach Jim Knoedel. "The facility at Benedictine is fantastic for the track and field athletes and fans because all events can be seen from the stands."

During the three-day event, over 40 individual and relay champions will be crowned, including the 2009 team champions.

The 2008 championships were held in Youngstown, Ohio, following a 10-year run in Indianapolis, Ind.

For more information, including ticket prices that will be provided at a later date, please log onto www.uicflames.com or www.horizonleague.org.

"With two schools in the Chicagoland area, we'll have plenty of families coming out to watch their kids compete," said Knoedel. "That should provide for an exciting atmosphere for all student-athletes."
